1. Sri Lanka 260/6 vs Kenya (2007)
The 2014 edition champions, Sri Lanka holds the record for the highest score in the T20 World Cup so far. They created this record in the inaugural edition of the ICC T20 World Cup, which was played in South Africa in 2007. The Sri Lankan team had scored a mammoth cricket score of 260 runs for the loss of 6 wickets against Kenya during the group stage match played at Johannesburg. Sanath Jayasuriya scored 88 runs off 44 balls, including 11 fours and 4 sixes, while the skipper, Mahela Jayawardene, scored 65 off 27, including 9 fours and 2 sixes. At the end, Jehan Mubarak played a terrific knock of 46 runs in just 13 balls. In response, Kenya’s lower-ranked side was bowled out on just 88 runs, and Sri Lanka won this match by a huge margin of 172 runs.
2. West Indies 254/6 vs Zimbabwe (2026)
The West Indies team has been in full form in the ongoing T20 World Cup 2026. The team even defeated England in the group stage and remains unbeaten in the tournament so far. Recently, against Zimbabwe, the West Indies amassed 254/6, which is the second-highest total in T20 World Cup history. For the West Indies, Shimron Hetmyer scored 85 off 34, and Rovman Powell scored 59 off 35. In reply, Zimbabwe were bowled out on 147 runs.
3. England 230/8 vs South Africa (2016)
England holds the 3rd highest total record in T20 World Cup history. They scored this total against South Africa in the 2016 Men’s T20 World Cup. At Wankhede Stadium, after batting first, South Africa put up a mammoth 229/4 on the scoreboard. After the first innings, it seemed SA would easily win the match. But England's batters had a different plan during the chase. They chased down this huge target in 19.4 overs with the loss of 8 wickets. This was the most thrilling match ever played in T20I WC history. Joe Root became the hero of England in this match. This was also the biggest run chase in T20 World Cup history.
